Throughout school closures and social distancing, I shifted my focus from stage to screen. Grad school and willing friends/collaborators provided me numerous opportunities to expand my skills and develop my love for dance film.
My MFA thesis dance film explores various aspects and effects of solitude. Somewhat autobiographical, this trilogy of short films draws inspiration from lived experiences and observations throughout the first two years of the Covid-19 pandemic. Each film focuses on the storytelling nature of dance and collaboration inherent in musical theatre.
Exploring the idea of infinity and eternity, this film is a collaboration with my Intermediate high school dance students at Metro Tech High School in Phoenix, AZ.
After a year of virtual learning, the dance teachers in Phoenix Union High School District were ready for Spring Break. Choreographed by Kimberly Tarver, produced/edited/directed by Lauran Stanis.
Beginning as a way to communicate with our students, but becoming a community favorite; this is a series of weekly dance films featuring the dance teachers in the Phoenix Union High School District. You can follow our Pandemic journey through these videos and into classroom activities and student dance films!
This is my final project for the first semester of an MFA in Dance. This is combined work from my Dance Technology and Creative Practices courses. Original Art by Elizabeth Stanis & Trisha Distworth.
